“This was London, in all its filth and glory. Nostalgic for the past, while yearning to cast off the chains of bygone ages and step forward into the bright utopia of the future. Proud of its achievements, yet despising its own flaws. A monster in both size and nature, that would consume the unwary and spit them out again, in forms unrecognizable and undreamt.

London hotel prices stop many travelers from coming to this great city so I've put together this list of London hotels that offer exceptional value for money. Back in 2007, the average London hotel room rose to £119 per night but I want to be able to prove you can still stay in the world's most cosmopolitan city for less than that, so all of these hotels are under £100 a night and some are well below that rate.

1. Tune Hotels - Westminster/Liverpool Street/Paddington/King's Cross

Tune Hotels are a popular no frills chain in Asia and now have three hotels in central London. They offer "5-star beds at 1-star prices" and are aimed at the savvy guest who wants the best value for money, whether they are leisure orbusiness travelers, or the kind of person looking for a cheaper alternative to grabbing a cab home after a late night out enjoying the city. Book online in advance and you should be able to get a room for £25-35 a night or even as low as £9 a night during special offers.

The grey-painted frontage of the Church Street Hotel hides a secret gem. Inside you'll find an incredible contrast with a brightly-colored Mexican-inspired wonderland. This boutique hotel in south London is a Spanish Americana oasis with interesting alcoves in the walls for kitsch religious artifacts. Even the front desk is an altar!
